Q. Who will be my trainer?
A. Irene Pastore will be your trainer. Irene Pastore, Certified Personal Trainer is based in New York City, and has been teaching exercise since 1996. To read her bio and certifications, visit the About Page.
Q. What is Tour de Core Personal Training?
A. Tour de Core Personal Training teaches clients to build strong core muscles. Tour de Core has 3 training phases: Phase I is taught without equipment, During Phase II, one or two pieces of equipment are added to your workout., In Phase III, there may be up to three pieces of equipment added to your routine. As you move through each phase there is less resting in between exercises.
Q. Do you charge a fee for the Consultation after I send in my Contact Form?
A. There is no fee for sending in your Contact Form, or the Consultation. Irene Pastore, Certified Personal Trainer will get back to you to answer your questions, and discuss your training plans during the initial Consultation. After that, you’ll eligible to sign-up for the 1-hour Fitness Assessment, for which there is a $125.00 fee. Or, you can save $15.00, by signing up for the Introductory 3-Pack, and get a reduced price on the Fitness Assessment.
Q. Why do you have a Fitness Assessment?
A. Every client comes to their training session with different levels of physical ability. Assessing each client is a prerequisite to training. Each client is also required to submit their Personal Fitness Profile (PFP) prior to their assessment. Once the CFA and the PFP are completed, the client is eligible to register for any type of training they prefer, as long as there are no medical restrictions.
Q. What type of training is Tour de Core?
A. Tour De Core Personal Training teaches core stabilization. Core stabilization training is about your ability to stabilize your body while standing, leaning, lying down, sitting, or moving on an unstable surface, while performing push-ups, squats, lunges, abs, bicep curls, cardio jumps, leaps, straddles, and other important exercises.
Q. Is core training easier than other forms of training?
A. Core training isn’t easy. If the exercises seem easy to you, either you need a more challenging routine, or you’re not doing the exercises correctly.
Correct refers to your ability to steady your body in a neutral position while performing stabilization exercises. A neutral position means that you’re not leaning forward or backward during an exercise, and that you’re able to maintain good posture. For the average person, holding neutral, is the most challenging aspect of core training.
Q. Who benefits from having a strong core?
A. Literally, everyone benefits having a strong core. Some examples are people who want to improve their posture, improve sports performance, be more efficient doing daily tasks, improve balance, get rid of muscular-related back ache and trigger points, have a stronger pregnancy, avoid sports-related injuries, and for older people, avoiding falls.
Q. How do I move to the next phase of core training?
A. After mastering each phase, you can move to the next. However, if you’re satisfied with your progress, and feel it fulfills your fitness needs, you don’t have to go to the next training phase. Each phase will give you plenty of work.
Q. What is Phase I?
A. In Phase I you’ll be exercising without equipment.
Q. What type of equipment will I use in Phase II and Phase III.
A. Depending on your progress, level of strength, flexibility, preferences, and finances, you might be using some of the following equipment: BOSU, Foam Rollers, Medicine Ball, Foam Pad, Balance Discs, Exercise Ball, TRX, Sliders, Reformer, Elastic Bands, Sandbag, The Arc, Tubing, Balance Pods.
Q. Do I have to move up to Phase II or Phase III
A. If you’ve attained your fitness goals in Phase I, you don’t need to go to Phase II or Phase III. It’s really up to you. Some people prefer to stop after Phase I, or Phase II, and use what they’ve learned. Others want to continue.
Q. At which level will I start?
A. You’ll start at your strongest point. If you’re strongest point is Phase II, that will be your starting point. To determine your starting point, you’ll be given some exercises to see how you do, before actual training begins.
Q. Do I have to buy equipment? Is it possible to improve my strength without it?
A. Bodyweight training is a method of strengthening that requires no equipment. Stretching can also be done without equipment. Equipment is used if you want more challenge in your routine, or if you just prefer using it. Or you can combine both styles of training.
Certain individuals may want to start learning a core fitness routine without added equipment, and then add it on, as they get stronger. Q. Do you always train clients in a 3-phase system?
A. The answer to this question is “not always”. Irene Pastore, Certified Personal Trainer, designed Tour De Core Personal Training to serve populations with wide-ranging needs in time, finances, and fitness levels. Frequent travelers, for example, may not have the time to invest in an hour of core training, or to work on a tiered training system. They might be interested in a stress release Yoga and Meditation session after a full day of meetings. This type of client may prefer purchasing a 15 or 30-Minute Session, while on a business trip. Stay-at-home moms benefit from shorter sessions, since it allows them time to fulfill their active schedules and still fit in a healthy workout.
Q. How long will it take to reach my long-range fitness goals?
A. Everyone is different. Some take longer than others. It depends on your starting level of fitness, and how much you practice. People who make a commitment toward personal improvement, move along faster than those who practice haphazardly. Regular exercise is a health habit, not an overnight thing.
A realistic commitment is a minimum of 3 months, with 2 to 3 training sessions per week for each Phase. But, it may take longer for some people.
Q. What are fitness goals? Do I need to have them in order to work with Tour De Core Personal Training?
A. Fitness goals vary from person-to-person. For example, an outdoor cycling enthusiast may have tight hamstrings. Their fitness goal would be to learn hamstring stretches in order to develop more flexible hamstring muscles . Someone in a weight-loss program may want to learn non-weight bearing exercises. Their fitness goal would be to increase flexibility and strength while exercising lying on their back or side. Another would be a frail individual who cannot exercise in a standing position. Their fitness goal might be learning to become stronger and more flexible while seated in a chair.
Q. Is there core equipment suitable for people over 65?
A. People over 65 can safely learn core stabilization exercises by using age compatible equipment. Peanut Stability Balls, Balance Pods, and Foam Pads would be suitable for seniors.
Q. Are there exercise modifications?
A. Exercise modifications make the exercise(s) more accessible, and help you build a strong foundation without the frustration of attempting exercises your body can’t do. Modifications help you avoid getting discouraged, and subsequently quitting exercise altogether.
Q. How are modifications taught?
A. Modifications are taught using equipment that makes the exercise more accessible. A few examples of this type of equipment are Elastic Bands, Foam Wedges, Peanut Ball, and Mini Exercise Balls.
Q. Why is it necessary to sign-up, and fill out paperwork before I begin training?
A. Filling out health forms and agreements is a standard requirement in the fitness industry, for anyone starting a training program. Whether you plan on taking a few sessions, or many, your health and fitness status should be known to your personal trainer. Your trainer designs your program based on the information you provide in these important forms. Once registered, you can take as many trainings as you like, whenever you want within a six-month period. After that, your Personal Fitness Profile has to be updated.
Q. Why don’t you have a phone or email address on your website?
A. To avoid marketing, scam calls, and junk email, neither phone or email appear on the website. When clients submit the Contact Form, Irene Pastore, Certified Personal Trainer, will email them to answer questions. Early communication is facilitated by email.
Q. Do you offer refunds?
A. The answer to this question is generally yes, but certain instances carry restrictions. Before signing up, read the Terms & Conditions Agreement. On page 2 of this document, there is a detailed explanation about cancellations and refunds. Q. Why is the Payment page password protected?
A. The password protected Payment Page prevents random visitors from making payments, before they complete the sign-up process.
Q. I’m interested in remote personal training. What type of computer do I need?
A. In order to participate in remote personal training, you’ll need a webcam, and either a desktop, or laptop computer, and Skype. If you don’t have Skype, you can download the application here. Q. Why do you offer short training sessions?
A. There are several reasons why 15 and 30-minute training sessions are offered. One of them, is to give clients an opportunity to test drive Tour De Core Personal Training, while making a modest financial investment. Once comfortable, they can make better buying decisions when purchasing long-term packages. Short sessions are also beneficial for anyone who is time-pressed. Also, there are people who want to refine a few exercises, and need some professional guidance to reach a short-term goal.
Q. May I record my Skype training session?
A. Individual consent for permission to record varies by state. However, clients are advised of company policy, that Irene Pastore, Certified Personal Trainer, and owner of Tour De Core Personal Training, does not record a client’s training session(s), nor does she give her permission for a client to record their session(s).
